I totally dieargse with Mike S! I think that magic REALLY DOES exist! Seriously!Oh, and I can't help myself I have to say it: Ask Hermione Granger [from Harry Potter] she might know. I'm j/p with you.Witches have been around for a long time. Many people claim witches don't exist, or their powers are simply deemed as fake or staged. It is hard to really explain or describe a witch. A stereotypical witch would be an old, craggy, ugly wrinkled woman, with a large nose and a huge wart somewhere on her face, the witch would constantly wear black would have a black cat as a companion. BOY HAVE THINGS CHANGED! Witches nowadays could be anybody, of any age. They can look like anything, they could be your girl next door, you would never tell.Of course witches have maintained their old trademarks with spells, and rules. Being a witch doesn't mean being Evil. Witches are usually peaceful spiritual beings in touch with the world, YET i must fret that there are witches that tend to be evil, witches that have pleasure in doing evil things, and cursing peoples, and unfortunantley that rule doesn't always seem to apply, the Witch doesn't always get it back X3, infact it is like a person that is fearing of God, the person would know that if he was to murder another human, they would be deemed to Hell..After the murder, God hasn't seemed to do anything. Since the 16th Century witches have been claimed as being evil, and being part of Satan, often women that had a suspicion of being a witch, would have her hands tied together, she would be thrown off a bridge to a raging river. If the witch was to float, she was to be picked up at the other end of the river and un-tied and let free. Yet if you didn't float back up, you were guaranteed to be a Witch, they often died of Drowning Yet many would be sure that this method must have killed many Innocent females. Another Method of being able to tell if one was a witch or not was simply from Physical appearance, if the woman had two Crowns on her head, she would instantly be noted of being a witch and would be killed off. Most witches by the 17th Century were killed off by being burnt at the Stake. One thing I personally was awkuard about was the fact that there haven't been many movies based on Witches. I find the topic of witches to be VERY interesting, as they have had many centuries of being Evil and a trecherous part of the Society, when often they were not. I have seen the Blair Witch Project, i enjoyed it thoroughly. The Blair Witch was an interesting witch to study, as many Facts Myths surround the witch, she was one of the most famed Witches, along with the Bell Witch. I have written a film based on Bloody Mary, it is based upon a witch called Mary Worth, she was an Evil Witch that supposedly died at the Stake. Yet after many harmless experiments by harmless children (Particularly Girls) Fun Jokes usually turned into Deadly Nights. Now im very sure most of the Population has seen the famed Film The Blair Witch Project. As soon as the opening notes came in, people were drawn into the film. The Introduction reads In October of 1994, three student filmmakers disappeared in the woods near Burkittesville, Maryland, while shooting a documentary. One year later, their footage was found. Instantly this would draw us to think that the Story is based on a true story, the Documentery look and feel also dragged us into the film and made us feel sorry for the Characters. Yet now, news has it that the Entire Blair Witch project was STAGED. The official Blair Witch page, that was filled with myhtical photos of the witch and its alleged witnesses is said to be entirely FAKE. Yes thats right, even at the end of the film, the produces even point out that it is entirely based on Non-Fiction. The characters you saw in the film, are alive and well today, infact moving on to future endeavors.

Good Friday Sermon 2009

Good Friday Sermon 2009
Here are the sermon notes I provided for the congregation from the sermon I preached today at the Good Friday Service. I have been wrestling with issues surrounding the doctrine of penal substitution since I taught a 4000 level seminar course "God, Violence and the Atonement" a couple of years ago. I have sought to listen carefully to criticism of the penal substitutionary view of the atonement from feminist, liberal, emergent and non-Christian sources. After reading a dozen books or so books and thinking about it for about three years, I have come to a position of peace with regard to the whole issue. Penal substitution does not say everything there is to say about the meaning of the cross and it does not exhaust the teaching of the NT on the cross, but it is an indispensable element of an orthodox doctrine of the atonement. The Church must not follow the culture into oblivion, but be a sign of contradiction on this matter. Sin, judgment and atonement are of central importance in the preaching of the Gospel.

The Doctrine of the Atonement as the Basis of Christian Worship

Dr. Craig Carter - Westney Heights Baptist Church - Good Friday, 2009

INTRODUCTION - Is it possible to be "too atonement-centered?"

I. Is the Atonement Out-dated?

There are a number of Evangelicals who are wavering on the importance of the atoning death of Christ as the basis for forgiveness of the sin that separates us from God. (eg. Alan Mann, Atonement for a 'Sinless Society').

He argues that the post-modern self of the modern world has constructed a narrative to explain the nature of reality in which the concept of sin as breaking God's law & thus incurring moral guilt no longer makes sense.

Mann quotes another author who says that Christians have allowed the biblical concept of sin as broken relationships to be reduced to sins, that is, to guilty thoughts, words and deeds, especially of the sexual variety. Sin has been reduced to what could be termed a "petty moralizing." He says that we need to stop talking about: "sinners, guilt, forgiveness, separation," & "judgment, and talk instead about "persons, relationships, acceptance," & "openness to the other."

There are two main explanations of the meaning of the cross:1. Traditional Evangelical preaching on the cross emphasized Jesus dying in our place bearing our sins and making possible our forgiveness. (Rom. 3:22b-26)

2. Traditional liberal preaching on the cross emphasized the death of Christ as God demonstrating His love for us. (Rom. 5:8)

Now, what is confusing here is that both ways of preaching the cross are true unless the second way chooses to deny the truth inherent in the first way. And this is exactly what is happening in certain circles of the Church today. To say that we are sinners under God's wrath does not in any way diminish God's love for us. The whole point is that it is guilty, condemned sinners that God loves, not pretty good people who deserve to be loved - or at least tolerated. The wonder of the cross is how God's wrath and love come together and how love emerges triumphant, but only because God has taken his own wrath upon himself.

Many Evangelicals and many popular authors who are being read by Evangelicals today are attacking what is known as the penal-substitutionary doctrine of the atonement, eg. Steve Chalke:

"The cross isn't a form of cosmic child abuse - a vengeful Father, punishing his Son for an offence he has not even committed. Understandably, both people inside and outside the Church have found this twisted version of events morally dubious and a huge barrier to faith." ("The Lost Message of Jesus")

"Though the sheer bluntness of my imagery shocked some, I contend that, in truth, it represents nothing more than a stark unmasking of what I understand to be the violent, pre-Christian thinking behind the popular theory of penal substitutionary atonement." ("The Atonement Debate", 34)

Three things hang together in this debate: sin as law-breaking, moral guilt as a result of sin, and penal substitution. If you deny any one of the three, you deny them all implicitly.

There is mystery in the cross. We can never hope to understand it totally. But the NT does make it clear that we are sinners lost without God and without hope in the world.

The liberal, heretical version of the Gospel, as taught in Liberal Protestantism, is the so-called "GOSPEL OF INCLUSION." It starts with the idea that God loves everyone as they are and so preaching the gospel means calling everyone into one big inclusive tent where they do not have to repent or change. All they have to do is celebrate their diversity, accept each other unconditionally and pat themselves on the back for being so open-minded.

. Forget sin - that is just old-fashioned mythological baggage

. Forget about guilt - there is no such thing as guilt, just guilt feelings that can gotten rid of in therapy

. Forget about repentance - that is just Fundamentalism

But the true Gospel is all about confessing our sin, repenting & believing in Christ's atoning death as our hope.

CONCLUSION - The Fathers of the Church, in meditating on John 19:35, understood the water and the blood as symbols of Baptism and Eucharist. As we come to the Eucharist, (the word means "thanksgiving") we come as sinners saved by grace, as those who have been bought with a price, the precious blood of Christ shed for us. Let us truly be thankful.

Monday Ministry Highlights Jesus Christ The Mediator

Monday Ministry Highlights Jesus Christ The Mediator
1 TIMOTHY 2:5 - FOR Submit IS ONE GOD, AND ONE Go between Surrounded by GOD AND MEN, THE MAN CHRIST JESUS;My dad grew up in Colorado, in the principal of the Arkansas Watercourse Be greedy. His those ran a little restaurant called The Reduce, on the line periphery of the ditch. Submit was a suspension bridge that went spanning from the metropolis of Howard, which free those populace invade to the line and to the towns private of the gully. This suspension bridge was the by yourself way spanning for quite a few miles. Now, my papa's best friend was the Region Descriptive at this time, and one day, my papa called his bifurcate, ravenous to know taking into account they were separation to fix the hole in the suspension bridge. He was quite worked up, sincerely taking into account Denzel alleged "Since hole? How did it get there?" Papa's nod was "I don't know how, it's absolutely there! Kind are having to perform all the way down to Cotopaxi to go around!" Denzel alleged he'd be in the past few minutes near and hung up the noise. Papa turned speak, grabbed his cover up, and told the waitress "So Denzel gets here, account him April Fool's. I'm separation fishing." Distinct those people, who may well slow get to the other periphery of the ditch, even still they'd had to perform twelve miles, there's by yourself one way for us to get to the other periphery. Jesus Christ is our suspension bridge, and we can't anxious one at a time. We've got to let Him re-establishment the holes. Submit is by yourself one true God. He is our Draftsman (Daylight 1:27) and He is God one at a time (Isaiah 37:16). Even if, it's not ample absolutely to know Incidentally God. We actually require to Discover Him. We prerequisite grasp a internal understanding with our Draftsman, and that's somewhere Jesus comes in. He shared with Nicodemus in John 3:3 that a man cannot see the Disembark of God unless he is untutored over. To be untutored over capital a spiritual rebirth, to be analogous a new notable with your sins forgiven, starting over - And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; (Ephesians 2:1), hustle meaning "brought to life". So we become associates of Christ, we become new. The old belongings are removed from our lives, and we become of God, who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ hath definite to us the ministry of pacification (2 Corinthians 5:17). Concord plainly capital to bring unable to get along sides back together, which is what we require as we became broken up from God when of sin (Romans 3:23). Infringe from God capital that we are preordained to die. The salary of sin are death, but God offers us the gift of eternal life produce Jesus (Romans 6:23). The by yourself way for us to virtually God is produce Jesus Christ, who acts as a Go between. A intermediary is "someone who mediates", which capital, a go- between; Faction who works with unable to get along sides in order to bring about an admiration, or a Concord (Oh! There's that word over). Jesus is an effective intermediary when that is evenly what God sent Him to be. He is God, He is the Son of God, but he is extremely the by yourself idyllic man. You and I cannot be disinterested party when we are not minus sin. We are not God. I am tightly not idyllic. You Essential grasp a internal understanding with Jesus Christ to come to God. God sent His son Jesus, even still He knew we were sinners. He sent Him to contribute His life for us and determination us reprieve (John 3:16, Romans 5:8). You cannot earn your way in vogue God's Disembark, you cannot cradle that suspension bridge on your own. The by yourself way to bring about that pacification, and that understanding with God, is to Discover Jesus Christ.Submit is by yourself one way to become a child of God, and to index Illusion. And that way is produce the Go between, Jesus Christ. Let me beget you back to our key verse in First Timothy. "For near is one God, and one intermediary in the company of God and men, the man, Christ Jesus." Paul lays it in the past few minutes out near for you, and it's pretty total cut that Jesus is IT. In fact, Jesus alleged that Himself in John 14:6, somewhere He positive "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man can come to the Jump but by me." Since does your suspension bridge outward show like? Daylight 1:27 - SO GOD Fashioned MAN IN HIS OWN Purpose, IN THE Purpose OF GOD Fashioned HE HIM; Staff AND Female Fashioned HE THEM.. Mermaid Merman

Mermaid Merman

The mermaid and merman symbolize the ability to integrate the spiritual aspects of the personality with the emotional. In being part fish and part human, they also symbolize the evolutionary journey from pure instinct to wisdom.

Mermaids and mermen are feminine and masculine representations of the link between the darker forces - which we do not necessarily understand and the conscious self. In dreams the mermaid epitomizes how difficult it is to integrate the two sides of our nature. This lack of integration can result in capriciousness. The merman, however, is said to be less 'intrigued'by humans so, therefore, represents unification, but in a way that is more isolated.

Traditionally, the mermaid or merman belongs to the sea as well as being able to exist on land. This symbolically represents an ability to be deeply emotional and also entirely practical. Until these two separate parts are properly integrated, the human being cannot fully exist in either the emotional or practical realms.

Many stories exist of the human's attempt to mate or link with these creatures of the sea, though the merman is less fascinated than his counterpart by humans. Most attempts end in hurt and distress for one party or the other and men's dreams of such a creature of fantasy in particular can reflect this. Women's dreams may contain an element of coming to terms with her own capriciousness.

Too Agreeable

Too Agreeable
Josh Blunt continues his series about church planting posted at Kevin DeYoung's blog. In the first years of the plant they had used an "attractional, seeker-driven model" that increasingly seemed inadequate:

.... Our discipleship of new believers, our prayer culture, and our common understanding of the sacraments had been too anemic in the attractional years, and had failed to bring true unity. We had intended to "major in the majors and minor in the minors," but instead had merely "agreed on the agreeables and avoided the avoidables."....And as they avoided being disagreeable they avoided those doctrines that made their denomination distinctive:

Rabbits And Hares Folklore And Myth

Rabbits And Hares Folklore And Myth
In many mythic traditions, rabbits and hares were archetypal symbols of femininity, associated with the lunar cycle, fertility, longevity, and rebirth. But if we dig a little deeper into their stories we find that they are also contradictory, paradoxical creatures: symbols of both cleverness and foolishness, of femininity and androgny, of cowardice and courage, of rampant sexuality and virginal purity. In some lands, Hare is the messenger of the Great Goddess, moving by moonlight between the human world and the realm of the gods; in other lands he is a god himself, wily deceiver and sacred world creator rolled into one.

The association of rabbits, hares, and the moon can be found in numerous cultures the world over - ranging from Japan to Mexico, from Indonesia to the British Isles. Whereas in Western folklore we refer to the "Man in the Moon," the "Hare (or Rabbit) in the Moon" is a more familiar symbol in other societies. In China, for example, the Hare in the Moon is depicted with a mortar and pestle in which he mixes the elixir of immortality; he is the messenger of a female moon deity and the guardian of all wild animals. In Chinese folklore, female hares conceive through the touch of the full moon's light (without the need of impregnation by the male), or by crossing water by moonlight, or licking moonlight from a male hare's fur. Figures of hares or white rabbits are commonly found at Chinese Moon Festivals, where they represent longevity, fertility, and the feminine power of yin.

In one old Chinese legend, Buddha summoned the animals to him before he departed from the earth, but only twelve representatives of the animal kingdom came to bid him farewell. He rewarded these twelve by naming a year after each one, in repeating cycles through eternity. The animal ruling the year in which a child born is the animal "hiding in the heart," casting a strong influence on personality, spirit, and fate. Rabbit was the fourth animal to arrive, and thus rules over the calendar in the fourth year of every twelve. People born into the Year of the Rabbit are said to be intelligent, intuitive, gracious, kind, loyal, sensitive to beauty, diplomatic and peace-loving, but prone to moodiness and periods of melancholy.

In another Buddhist legend, from India this time, Lord Buddha was a hare in an early incarnation, traveling in the company of an ape and a fox. The god Indra, disguised as a hungry beggar, decided to test their hospitality. Each animal went in search of food, and only the hare returned empty handed. Determined to be hospitable, the hare built a fire and jumped into it himself, feeding Indra with his own flesh. The god rewarded this sacrifice by transforming him into the Hare in the Moon.

In Egyptian myth, hares were also closely associated with the cycles of the moon, which was viewed as masculine when waxing and feminine when waning. Hares were likewise believed to be androgynous, shifting back and forth between the genders-not only in ancient Egypt but also in European folklore right up to the 18th century. A hare-headed god and goddess can be seen on the Egyptian temple walls of Dendera, where the female is believed to be the goddess Unut (or Wenet), while the male is most likely a representation of Osiris (also called Wepuat or Un-nefer), who was sacrificed to the Nile annually in the form of a hare.

In Greco-Roman myth, the hare represented romantic love, lust, abundance, and fercundity. Pliny the Elder recommended the meat of the hare as a cure for sterility, and wrote that a meal of hare enhanced sexual attraction for a period of nine days. Hares were associated with the Artemis, goddess of wild places and the hunt, and newborn hares were not to be killed but left to her protection. Rabbits were sacred to Aphrodite, the goddess of love, beauty, and marriage-for rabbits had "the gift of Aphrodite" (fertility) in great abundance. In Greece, the gift of a rabbit was a common love token from a man to his male or female lover. In Rome, the gift of a rabbit was intended to help a barren wife conceive. Carvings of rabbits eating grapes and figs appear on both Greek and Roman tombs, where they symbolize the transformative cycle of life, death, and rebirth.

In Teutonic myth, the earth and sky goddess Holda, leader of the Wild Hunt, was followed by a procession of hares bearing torches. Although she descended into a witch-like figure and boogeyman of children's tales, she was once revered as a beautiful, powerful goddess in charge of weather phenomena. Freyja, the headstrong Norse goddess of love, sensuality, and women's mysteries, was also served by hare attendants. She traveled with a sacred hare and boar in a chariot drawn by cats. Kaltes, the shape-shifting moon goddess of western Siberia, liked to roam the hills in the form of a hare, and was sometimes pictured in human shape wearing a headdress with hare's ears. Ostara, the goddess of the moon, fertility, and spring in Anglo-Saxon myth, was often depicted with a hare's head or ears, and with a white hare standing in attendance. This magical white hare laid brightly colored eggs which were given out to children during spring fertility festivals - an ancient tradition that survives in the form of the Easter Bunny today.

Eostre, the Celtic version of Ostara, was a goddess also associated with the moon, and with mythic stories of death, redemption, and resurrection during the turning of winter to spring. Eostre, too, was a shape-shifter, taking the shape of a hare at each full moon; all hares were sacred to her, and acted as her messengers. Cesaer recorded that rabbits and hares were taboo foods to the Celtic tribes. In Ireland, it was said that eating a hare was like eating one's own grandmother - perhaps due to the sacred connection between hares and various goddesses, warrior queens, and female faeries, or else due to the belief that old "wise women" could shape-shift into hares by moonlight. The Celts used rabbits and hares for divination and other shamanic practices by studying the patterns of their tracks, the rituals of their mating dances, and mystic signs within their entrails. It was believed that rabbits burrowed underground in order to better commune with the spirit world, and that they could carry messages from the living to the dead and from humankind to the faeries.

As Christianity took hold in western Europe, hares and rabbits, so firmly associated with the Goddess, came to be seen in a less favorable light - viewed suspiciously as the familiars of witches, or as witches themselves in animal form. Numerous folk tales tell of men led astray by hares who are really witches in disguise, or of old women revealed as witches when they are wounded in their animal shape. In one well-known story from Dartmoor, a mighty hunter named Bowerman disturbed a coven of witches practicing their rites, and so one young witch determined to take revenge upon the man. She shape-shifted into a hare, led Bowerman through a deadly bog, then turned the hunter and his hounds into piles of stones, which can still be seen today. (The stone formations are known by the names Hound Tor and Bowerman's Nose.)

Although rabbits, in the Christian era, were still sometimes known as good luck symbols (hence the tradition of carrying a "lucky rabbit's foot"), they also came to be seen as witch-associated portents of disaster. In Somerset, the appearance of a rabbit in a village street was said to presage a coming fire, while in Dorset, a rabbit crossing one's path in the morning was an indication of trouble ahead. A remedy from 1875 suggests, "You can easily set matters right by spitting over your left shoulder, and saying, 'Hare before, Trouble behind: Change ye, Cross, and free me,' or else by the still more simple charm which consists in touching each shoulder with your forefinger, and saying, 'Hare, hare, God send thee care.'" Some Cornish fisherman would not let hares or rabbits on their boats, or say the names of these animals aloud, or use a net contaminated by contact with one of them. Hares were also associated with madness due to the wild abandon of their mating rituals. The expression "Mad as a March hare" comes from the leaping and boxing of hares during their mating season.

Despite this suspicious view of rabbits and their association with fertility and sexuality, Renaissance painters used the symbol of a white rabbit to convey a different meaning altogether: one of chastity and purity. It was generally believed that female rabbits could conceive and give birth without contact with the male of the species, and thus virginal white rabbits appear in biblical pictures of the Madonna and Child. The gentle timidity of rabbits also represented unquestioning faith in Christ's Holy Church in paintings such as Titian's Madonna with Rabbit (1530).

Rabbits and hares are both good and bad in trickster tales found all the way from Asia and Africa to North America. In the Panchatantra tales of India, for example, Hare is a wily trickster whose cleverness and cunning is pitted against Elephant and Lion, while in Tibetan folktales, quick-thinking Hare outwits the ruses of predatory Tiger. In Japan, the fox is the primary trickster animal, but hares too are clever, tricky characters. Usually depicted as male (whereas fox tricksters are most often female), hares in Japanese folktales tend to be crafty, clownish, mischievous figures - as opposed to fox tricksters (kitsune), who are more seductive, secretive, and dangerous. In West Africa, many tribal cultures, such as the Yoruba of Nigeria and the Wolof of Senegal, have traditional story cycles about an irrepressible hare trickster who is equal parts rascal, clown, and culture hero. In one pan-African story, the Moon sends Hare, her divine messenger, down to earth to give mankind the gift of immortality. "Tell them," she says, "that just as the Moon dies and rises again, so shall you." But Hare, in the role of trickster buffoon, manages to get the message wrong, bestowing mortality instead and bringing death to the human world. The Moon is so angry, she beats Hare with a stick, splitting his nose (as it remains today). It is Hare's role to lead the dead to the Afterlife in penance for what he's done.

African hare stories traveled to North America on the slavers' ships, mixed with rabbit tales of the Cherokee and other tribes, and were transformed into the famous Br'er Rabbit stories of the American South. These stories were passed orally among slaves, for whom Br'er (Brother) Rabbit was a perfect hero, besting more powerful opponents through his superior intelligence and quicker wits. the The Br'er Rabbit stories were written down and published by Joel Chandler Harris in the 19th century in a now classic collection narrarated by the fictional Uncle Remus. At the same time that Chandler Harris was recording Br'er Rabbit stories from the African American oral tradition, folklorist Alcee Fortier was setting down the folk tales of the Cajun (French Creole) culture of southern Louisiana - including delightful stories of a fast-talking rabbit trickster called Compair Lapin. Like Br'er Rabbit, or the hares of West African lore, Compare Lapin is a rascal who manages to get himself into all kinds of trouble - and then smoothly finds his way back out again through cleverness and guile.

Among the many different Native American story traditions, trickster tales featuring Coyote or Raven tend to be best known to non-Native audiences, but there are also a large number of tales that feature a trickster Rabbit or Hare, particularly among the Algonquin-speaking peoples of the central and eastern woodland tribes. Nanabozho (or Manabozho) the Great Hare, for instance, is a powerful figure found in the tales of the Algonquin, Fox, Menoimini, Ottawa, Ojibwa, and Winnebago tribes. In some stories, Nanabozho is a revered culture hero - creator of the earth, benefactor of humankind, the bringer of light and fire, and teacher of sacred rituals. In other tales he's a clown, a thief, a lecher, or a cunning predator - an ambivalent, amoral figure dancing on the line between right and wrong. In Potawatomi myth, Wabosso is the Great White Hare (and the younger brother of Nanabozho) who travels north to become the greatest of magicians among the supernaturals. The Utes tell the story of Ta-vwots, the Little Rabbit, who shatters the sun and destroys the world, all of which must be created again; and an Omaha rabbit brings the sun down to earth while trying to catch his own shadow. The Cherokee, the Creek, the Biloxi and other tribes tell humorous stories of a mischievous Rabbit who is cousin to Br'er Rabbit and Compair Lapin, outwitting foes and puncturing the pride of friends with his clownish antics.

The jackalope legends of the American Southwest are stories of a more recent vintage, consisting of purported sightings of rabbits or hares with horns like antelopes. The legend may have been brought to North American by German immigrants, derived from the Raurackl (or horned rabbit) of the German folklore tradition. The jackalope legend might also derive from actual horn-like growths found on the heads and faces of rabbits infected with Shope papillomavirus, a rare, disfiguring disease found among the wild rabbit population.

Jesus And The Gurus

Jesus And The Gurus
I am relocation, with his influence, a guest fib by Steve Scott a staff tentacle of Warehouse Ministries. A doer and artiste, Scott is as well the writer of diverse books among, Desire a Position on Fire: Rebuilding of the Arts in a Postmodern Group and Crying for a Scene and Option Essays: The In concert Steve Scott Vol. One. I normal this fib as an given to some of the questions asked in the sheen local office of my relocation The Bhagavad-Gita, the Bible: sadness and existence everyday. This is a hanker relocation but be obliged to be read as a whole part. Bring joy to read and reminiscent of.JESUS AND THE GURUSWhat definitely traveling in India, I had an overwhelm to begin studying some of the holy and philosophical systems craze dowry. I was clever to taste in discussions with several Indians, Hindu, Buddhists and Christians. As a considered opinion I had to come to light rock climbing down from several of my "Western" presuppositions about Eastern religions. The Indian Christians were loving of reminding me that Christianity itself was an Eastern religion and, then, that Christianity had been in India far longer than it had been in the USA.It was with these intelligence in keep under surveillance that I set about taxing to understand every one the similarities and differences between Christianity and other Eastern religions. I began my study in the area of the "lecturer" or "living master." As I examined the manufacture of the lecturer and the lecturer tradition, my eyes were opened to some of the mistakes that we in the West are responsible to make. We intelligence to regard the lecturer as lone a learned or a wealth of a particular spiritual tradition, at the same time as my studies reveal that the lecturer directly implicit is seen as an dream of of the very tradition he teaches. (I'll dish up some quotes from their own literature that suggests this a little difficult on.) We as well make the misunderstand of assuming that the lecturer lone teaches us the way of accomplishment free from our accumulated sin (fortune) or free from absolute soft spot to this realm of ability (maya) and free from such pain such soft spot produces (samsara). Deeper study, nevertheless, reveals that it is the lecturer himself who frees us from this threefold burden. If we present ourselves correctly and completely to lecturer bhakti, or worship, subsequently he mettle free us guzzle coaching and credibly guzzle the reign of a gigantic skip of spiritual power acknowledged in the lecturer tradition as "shaktipat."As I scholarly exceptional and exceptional of the plain function that the lecturer plays in this tradition, I saw its resemblance to the Christian murder. Jesus died and rose over to free us from the luggage and power of sin. Taking into account we are in fact close watch Christ, subsequently we are no longer "ration" by the world. As I deliberate, I began to see that Jesus and the gurus were every one claiming to please virtually come to functions. I looked-for to see how far the quantity could be unavailable, so I began to make comparisons between some Indian literature on the lecturer (importantly The Knowledgeable Tattwa of Swami Sivananda)* and some of the stories and sayings about Jesus recorded in the literature of the Antiquated Minster. The "Knowledgeable Gita" contained in Silananda's letters vegetation little worry as to who the lecturer is and what he claims to be:Knowledgeable is Brahma. Knowledgeable is Vishnu. Knowledgeable is Siva. Knowledgeable is the Standard Brahman itself. Prostration to that Knowledgeable. (v:4)The lecturer by yourself is the whole world, among Brahman Vishnu and Siva. Nobody fat than Knowledgeable exists. Accordingly Knowledgeable is to be worshiped. (v:18)The form of Knowledgeable is the origin of meditation. The feet of Knowledgeable are the origin of be attracted to. The teaching of the Knowledgeable is the origin of all mantras. The subtlety of Knowledgeable is the origin of recovery. (v:12)By identifying the Knowledgeable as existence come to to the Hindu trinity and as well the place of birth of recovery, the image of the lecturer as every one the dream of and even the place of birth of the spiritual tradition he espouses become overall. The Christian tradition has some drawn attention about Jesus. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; for in him all luggage were produced, in Fantasy and on earth, evident and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers that be - all luggage were produced guzzle Him and for Him. He is beforehand all luggage and in Him all luggage clutch together. (Col. 1:15-18)In the beginning was the Low voice and the Low voice was with God and the Low voice was God. He was in the beginning with God; all luggage were completed guzzle Him and in need Him was not completed anything that was completed. (John 1:1-4)In this the love of God was completed overt among us that God sent His in basic terms Son into the world, so that we could halt guzzle Him. (1 John 4:9)Stage we can see that the Christians tension of Jesus greatly in the identical way, nevertheless their use of a delimit take pleasure in "in basic terms begotten" is a little alarming. Possibly they had never heard of the gurus. The total indigence of the lecturer for recovery is as well nervous in the Gita.Prostration to that Knowledgeable, due to whose go the world exists, due to whose effulgence the world is illumined, due to whose cheerfulness all are pleased. (v:10)Nearby is no candor out of Knowledgeable. Nearby is no amends out of Knowledgeable. Nearby is no knowledge out of Knowledgeable. Prostration to that Knowledgeable. (v:11)Taking into account God is high-pitched, Knowledgeable is the champion. Taking into account Knowledgeable gets high-pitched, none is the champion. (v:21)"Gu" is difficulty. "Ru" is its remover. In the role of one removes difficulty, he is called a "Knowledgeable." (v:40)Also the Christians nervous the indigence and centrality of Jesus in establishing recovery. For God so dear the world that He gave His in basic terms Son, that whosoever believes in Him be obliged to not cease to exist but accept eternal life. For God sent His Son into the world, not to violence the world but that the world could be saved guzzle Him. (John 3:16-17)All this is from God who guzzle Christ reconciled us to Himself. (11 Cor. 5:18)That is God was in Christ merging the world to Himself. (11 Cor. 5:19)Stage some differences start to hand out. The cited lecturer texts glare to place the lecturer virtually at a enhanced level than God after it comes to diffused the fan, at the same time as Jesus worked "in execution" with God, as it were, to accomplish the purposes of calm and redemption. Nearby is no hint of some create of aggressive competition between God the Plus and God the Son. And over dowry is the upsetting use of "in basic terms begotten" by the offspring Christian writers. It mettle be enthralling to see if Jesus Himself was as "haughty" in His statements as His partners. One unconsciously cannot disgrace their liveliness and worship. The Knowledgeable Gita as well counsels outgoing worship to the lecturer as existence of spiritual helpful. The water with which the feet of the Knowledgeable are washed is the sacred quaff. The lees in arrears Guru's lunchtime are the honest pitch. Clothed meditation is on the form of Knowledgeable. Constant Japa [re-emergence] is of Guru's name. For the point of acquiring knowledge and lack of concern, one be obliged to quaff the water with which Guru's feet are washed, which cuts at the origin of thickness, which overcomes organic and the burden of Coincidence. (v:13-14)Fault any smoothness of humble one be obliged to fall in full prostration beforehand the Knowledgeable and worship the Knowledgeable guzzle action, keep under surveillance and discourse at all times. The baths unavailable in pilgrimages to the seven mountain bring in basic terms a thousandth part of the effect bent by intake a patch up of the water that is used for washing Guru's feet. (v.19-20)The statements of Jesus Himself reveals what He open from His partners. And He who does not gain up his crabby and persuade me is not creditable of me. He who finds his life shall lose it and he who loses his life for my sake mettle find it. (Matt 10:38-39)On the wait day of the dinner, the vigorous day, Jesus stood up and proclaimed, if anyone yearning let him come to me and quaff. He who believes in me, as the Scripture has held "out of his nitty-gritty shall drop rivers of living water." (John 7:37-38)Jesus, experienced that the Plus had fact all luggage into His hands, and that He had come from God and was separation to God, rose from lunch, laid mention His hold, and girded Himself with a unexciting. As well as He poured water into a basin, and began to pigswill the disciples' feet, and to touch lightly them with the unexciting with which He was girded. (John 13:3-5)This is anyplace some of the real differences start to undergo. Jesus calls His disciples to cattle a crabby in their worship to Him. He as well points out that all who are parch be obliged to come to Him to quaff the "living water" that He can dish up. He says nobody about washing His feet in it leading. In fact, in order to set an term of the create of spiritual worship he wants his partners to taste in, He knelt and washed the feet of His partners. As a consequence, one can see in the fellowship of the wait lunch in which Jesus shares a common cup and a common loaf, a far a variety of picture than the one painted by the Knowledgeable Gita which insists that eating the guru's remnants mettle by some means beat your spirituality. The maximum upsetting aspect of Jesus' statements deals with His own claims taking part in the matchlessness of recovery guzzle Him.Jesus held to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Plus, but by me. (John 14:6)So Jesus over held to them, "Candidly in fact, I say to you, I am the opening of the domestic animals. All who came beforehand me are thieves and robbers; but the domestic animals did not take care them. I am the door; if any one enters by me, he mettle be saved, and mettle go in and out and find countryside. The poacher comes in basic terms to deduce and kill and junk, I came that they could accept life and accept it freely. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the domestic animals. (John 10:7-11)Taking into account I asked a gust "expert master" about this in Beas, India, he told me that Jesus was the in basic terms way for his particular age and people. I was, of course, hazy by this - assured the manufacture listed the lecturer and the master hadn't converted so knowingly as seemed to be indicated in the deep differences between what Jesus held and did and some of the luggage contained in the Knowledgeable Gita. As a consequence, Jesus seemed to be accidental that any had come beforehand Him or would come in arrears Him who could accomplish the spiritual results that He had achieved. The Gurus, of course, would at the same height back to their gurus, (i.e., the Counselor Mahesh Yogi would at the same height to Knowledgeable Dev, etc.) and the lecturer tradition. Jesus did no such thing. He didn't glare to desire His murder was restricted by its ancient history position or in basic terms appropriate to a particular period of history.A stay fresh fissure I noticed is this: some of the gurus were responsible to conclude their papers by vernacular about their austerities - lingering unhappiness in (for term) the Himalayas anyplace in arrears significant yogic exercise and corporal misery they realized their divine nature: that they were come to with the divine aphorism of the world. It struck me that in order to conclude Jesus' papers as a spiritual master that it would be helpfully no-nonsense to receive a drawn "pick up" taking part in His lingering meditation and "God fulfillment." I searched the New Memorial in irrational. I did, nevertheless, find this in Philippians 2:5-11:Christ Jesus, who guzzle He was in the form of God, did not calculation semblance with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, prize the form of a servant, existence untutored in the semblance of men. And existence found in everyday form He humbled Himself and became capable unto death, even death on the crabby. Accordingly God has perfectly disdainful Him and bestowed on Him the name which is luxury every name, that at the name of Jesus every drink greedily be obliged to bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every talking open your heart to that Jesus Christ is Lady, to the disarray of God the Plus.*Guru Tattwa. Witches Witch Trials In Early Modern Europe

Witches Witch Trials In Early Modern Europe
Natural witch characteristics are by no means set in stone and because of this, it's a topic that causes a lot of disagreements! However, it is an area that interests me as I was aware of some of the signs from an early age so I thought I would put together a small, but by no means complete, list of some of the most popular giveaways.

1) Psychic dreams. This of course will link in with those with psychic abilities, which takes us in a different direction to witchcraft but this is very common with natural witches because of their intuitive personalities.

2) An affinity with nature. A natural witch characteristic that runs through just about all natural witches is that they feel at one with the world around them. They are not good at being cooped up and tend to be fond of all outdoor pursuits from walking to gardening.

3) A close understanding of animals. The natural witch will often be able to understand animals and themselves have quite an animalistic approach to life in some ways. What this means is that they are flexible, able to adapt to the changing environment including the seasons, often highly attuned to danger signs around them and also are affected by moon cycles.

4) Natural witch characteristics will often run in families. But this doesn't mean that it has to be a parent. You may discover that an ancestor way back was a witch!

5) An aptitude for divination. Again we crossover with the psychic realm but this can also make the natural witch much more adept at using witchcraft tools in general. There is an instinctive ability to work with them.

Having said all of the above it is important to also recognise that nothing will be achieved without hard work and practise. But if you have found that you have one or more of the above, you may find that witchcraft is your true calling :)

Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas

Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas
By Dave, the WM

I'm an ex-Christian and an atheist. This Christmas I have two overly decorated 9' tall Christmas trees complete with twinkling lights and one tree is circled by a battery powered toy train. Perched in locations all around my house, dozens and dozens of Nutcrackers of every height and description keep vigil while festive smelling candles taint the air. A thick layer of snow currently blankets the ground outside my window, and holly and ivy decorate my neighbor's porches. It's holiday time at an atheist home!

Christ's Mass. The Catholic Mass held on the eve before Christ's birth. That's what Christmas means, doesn't it? I mean, isn't an atheist who is celebrating Christmas about as hypocritical as one can get? Aren't we always hearing "Keep Christ in Christmas" and "Jesus is the reason for the season?" Isn't there even an atheistic "War on Christmas?"

Well, I suppose this is all just because of ignorance. Not my ignorance -- Christian ignorance. You see, when I was a "True Fundie(tm)," there were several years when I refused to celebrate Christmas, and for good reason too! Regardless of the name that's been glued on to the so-called holy day, the roots of this celebration are deeply pagan.

Long before the arrival of the two now famous Jewish peasant cousins who itinerantly preached on the hillsides of Judea for a couple years, the Norse were celebrating Yule from December 21 through January, honoring the return of the sun and in Germany people were celebrating the god Odin.

"Jo Saturnalia" (pronounced yo) would have been the December greeting in Jesus' neighborhood. With Romans marching all over Palestine, Jesus and his band of merry men would have been quite familiar with this idolatrous holiday honoring Saturn, the god of agriculture.

From the "History Channel":

Beginning in the week leading up to the winter solstice and continuing for a full month, Saturnalia was a hedonistic time, when food and drink were plentiful and the normal Roman social order was turned upside down. For a month, slaves would become masters. Peasants were in command of the city. Business and schools were closed so that everyone could join in the fun.

Also around the time of the winter solstice, Romans observed Juvenalia, a feast honoring the children of Rome. In addition, members of the upper classes often celebrated the birthday of Mithra, the god of the unconquerable sun, on December 25. [...] For some Romans, Mithra's birthday was the most sacred day of the year.

Interestingly enough, Mithras was always portrayed as an infant during this festive time.

As a good, Yahweh-fearing Jew, I sincerely doubt Jesus or his cousin would have dared light up a Yule log, or mix a potent batch of eggnog, or whatever the Roman revelers would have used to usher in the traditional holiday season.

From the "Catholic Encylopedia":

Christmas was not among the earliest festivals of the Church. Irenaeus and Tertullian omit it from their lists of feasts; Origen asserts (in Lev. Hom. viii in Migne, P.G., XII, 495) that in the Scriptures sinners alone, not saints, celebrate their birthday.

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, sporadic feasts commemorating Jesus' birth began to crop up in various locations beginning in 200 CE, but the dates assigned to the feasts varied widely, and there was no general consensus on when Jesus might have been born, or even if the event was appropriate for Christians to commemorate.

Christmas celebrations spread to Egypt by 432, to England by the end of the sixth century and to Scandinavia by the end of the eighth century. By the Middle Ages, Christmas had, for the most part, supplanted the older pagan celebrations. But, it was still celebrated in the traditionally pagan way, with raucous Mardi Gras-like drunkenness and partying. Of course, that was after the church service.

During the 17th century, Puritan forces took over England and vowed to rid the land of the decadence of Christmas. Christmas was condemned by Oliver Cromwell and forbidden by an Act of Parliament in 1644. The day was to be a fast and a market day; shops were compelled to be open; plum puddings and mince pies condemned as heathen. Even after Charles I took the thrown and re-legalized Christmas, Yuletide was called "Fooltide" by the faithful.

When the pilgrims arrived on the shores of America, Christmas was not one of their holidays, and in Boston, the celebration of December 25 was outlawed. Congress was in session on December 25, 1789, the first Christmas under the new constitution. Christmas wasn't declared a federal holiday until June 26, 1870.

In the 19th century, Americans began to embrace and re-invent Christmas. In 1819 Washington Irving wrote "The Sketchbook of Gfery Crayon, Gentleman," a series of stories about the celebration of Christmas in an English manor house. Irving's fictitious celebrants enjoyed supposed "ancient customs" that in actuality were fictitious inventions from the mind of the author. No such ancient customs existed prior to Irving's book, but because of the popularity of his stories, his invented Christmas "traditions" took hold.

Also around this time Charles Dickens hit the scene with his classic "A Christmas Carol." These two authors, more than any pope, prelate, or peasant preacher, are responsible for what those living in the west have come to regard as a traditional Christmas celebration.

Just as an added point, even with 2,000 years of evangelism, to this day oriental countries do not celebrate Christmas the same way we do. In Japan, people generally work on Christmas, and Christians may or may not attend church that day or on Christmas Eve. Japanese and Chinese more enthusiastically celebrate New Year, which has no Christian connotations whatsoever.

For thousands of years, people have been making merry in December, celebrating with joy their lives, their families, and the change of seasons by gathering together with friends against the cold. Regardless of the name of the holiday or whether the general population is celebrating Marduk, Mithras, or Messiah, all the gods are myth anyway, so why should an atheist miss out on the fun?

So, as far as I'm concerned, the next time someone tells me to remember the reason for the season, I'll point to the sun, raise a full mug of spiced wine, and toast to the health of the ignorant well wisher. If that person joins me in the toast, who knows, maybe he or she will finally understand the real meaning of Christmas.

A Church Moved By The Spirit

A Church Moved By The Spirit
The keystone story of the Christian pathway to spiritual transformation is found in the Pentecost story. Having been told by Jesus to wait upon the Spirit before taking up their calling to carry his good news to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8), a small band of Jesus' followers wait patiently until the day of Pentecost, when the Spirit falls upon them like "a mighty wind." At that moment, as the Spirit of God falls upon this gathering of God's people, it is quickly apparent that this room cannot contain the presence of the Spirit. Soon, the whole city --a city that's full of pilgrims -- begins to hear the message that the Spirit has come to give witness to the risen Lord, Jesus the Christ (Acts 2). In the moment that the Spirit blows through this community of disheartened and fearful disciples, they find new resolve and purpose, giving birth to a new movement of God in the world. It is through them, and all who follow in their footsteps that Jesus Christ is present to the world. If one takes a journey through the Book of Acts, one will watch as the Spirit empowers and guides this new movement of ordinary people who took up extraordinary callings. The result of this movement of the Spirit is that the people who would come to be called Christians would leave an indelible mark on the world. The Spirit drew these first disciples together, empowering and gifting them, so that they could go to their community with a word of healing. As Peter said to the man sitting in the city gate: "I have no silver or gold, but what I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk" (Acts 3:6). This has been the message of the church, when the church has truly understood its calling: God will not leave your life unchanged. When that earliest community of faith gathered for worship and prayer, they comforted each other and gave generously to those in need. At our best, we continue this tradition. We serve meals to the hungry and provide homes for the homeless. We lift up the downcast and bring healing to the hurting. Such a church, to quote Fred Craddock, is "going out and serving other people who are not even grateful, hurting when anybody else hurts, emptying their pockets for other people's children, building a Habitat house when their own house is in bad need of repair and the paint is peeling, going to the woman's house and mowing her lawn when their own grass is twelve inches high." [Fred B. Craddock, "The Cherry Log Sermons," (Louisville: Westminster/John Knox Press, 2001), 69.]The message of Pentecost is simple: when the Spirit begins to move in our midst, expect things to change. When the Spirit is moving our hearts begin to focus on the needs and concerns of our neighbor. We begin to practice the ancient art of hospitality. We advocate for justice and for peace. With the coming of the Spirit, the call to change the world begins to resound. It's important that we understand that the point of Pentecost is not the spectacle of tongues of fire, but is instead the transformation that occurs when the Spirit moves in the midst of the church. As the church opens its doors to this refreshing wind of the Spirit one should expect to find a community that is learning to live out the two great commandments: love God and love neighbor. An excerpt from "Gifts of Love "(unpublished manuscript)

Story Of Tulsi

Story Of Tulsi
The story of Tulsi, the medicinal plant, begins with Indra, the Lord of the Heavens.

Lord Indra, was the king of the Devas. But he realized that people no longer looked up to him at the main God. This worried him a lot. He knew that people now looked up at Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva to guide them. Indra knew that he could not hope to confront Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. They were after all the Gods of Creation and of Preservation. But Indra could not understand, why people liked Lord Shiva. He was after all the God of destruction.

Indra was thinking. "I will go and prove to the world that I am better than the Lord of Destruction, then people will look up to me too..."However Indra had misunderstood...Lord Shiva was the Lord of Destruction...he destroyed all evil things in the world...he was the destroyer of the ego...the uncontrollable impulses inside us....

Indra went straight to Kailash and there wanted to meet Lord Shiva. However Lord Shiva using the power of his meditation, figured out that Indra was coming to meet him. Lord Shiva transformed himself to look like his gana and stood outside his door as a doorman. He stood there as Indra came.

'Let me in...doorman,' Indra said contemptuously at the doorman, without realizing who he was. 'I want to talk to Lord Shiva....and settle a matter once and for all...'

The doorman looked at Indra with amused eyes, 'What do you want to settle once and for all, Lord Indra?'

Indra looked loftily at the doorman, 'I want to prove that I am more powerful than Lord Shiva..' Indra said brandishing his Vajra angrily.

The doorman if anything looked even more amused. 'I am supposed to guard Lord Shiva...Why don't you first show your powers before me...If you win...You can meet Lord Shiva...'

Indra was angry. But then you could refuse to fight when somebody openly challenged you..He accepted.

Indra and the doorman fought. The doorman fought brilliantly. Indra watched as the doorman became more and more angry. The doorman finally pushed him back with a great deal of force...Indra was about to get up when he had a sudden flash. "No ordinary doorman could just push him away...This doorman..."Indra realized with fear that the doorman could be none other than Lord Shiva himself. The doorman was eying him with sharp eyes, as Indra slowly got up on his feet. Indra realized that he had already tired himself and Lord Shiva looked like he had not even started fighting...Indra knew that he could not hope to match with a power like that. He slowly went towards the doorman and fell at his feet. 'Lord Shiva! I am sorry! I did not realize how powerful you are...You have destroyed my pride...'

The doorman looked at Indra angrily for some time. The doorman closed his eyes and Indra saw as the doorman curbed his anger with great difficulty. Indra saw something fly out of the doorman - something fierce, red and burning. Once the thing emerged from the doorman, Lord Shiva appeared before Indra in his normal form. Indra looked at the beautiful face of Lord Shiva and once again bowed to him, 'I am sorry my Lord!'

Lord Shiva smiled at Indra, 'Indra! You had made me very angry...I was actually tempted to open my third eye and burn you to ashes...' Indra shivered as he realized how close to death he had come...

'...But then when you fell at my feet, asking for forgiveness...I could not just hold any grudge against you...' Lord Shiva said as he shook his head. 'But my anger was quiet another thing...'

Indra looked at Shiva and asked wonderingly, 'What was the thing that came out of you, my Lord?'

Lord Shiva looked at Indra wondering whether he would understand, 'That was a personification of my anger...Because I was not willing to use it against you...my anger was dragged away from me...It is now inside the ocean...'

Lord Indra once again asked Lord Shiva for forgiveness and went back to his palace a wiser man...However that was just the beginning of the problems of Indra...

Lord Shiva being a very powerful person, his anger was very potent, When all his anger was deposited in the ocean waves, the anger immediately transformed into a young baby! The baby wailed and wailed...Lord Brahma the God of creations, heard the cries of the baby and came there. He picked up the baby in his arms. The baby he found was extraordinarily heavy.

As Lord Brahma picked up the baby, he felt the tiny hands of the baby pluck at his beard. The force with which the baby tugged at his beard was great, that Lord Brahma nearly cried out! Wiping the tears from his face, Lord Brahma looked at the child and said, 'You are very strong...You have brought 'jala' [water] in my eyes, by your strength...For this I name you Jalandhara [One who brings water].

As Jalandhara grew up, he became more and more proud of his strength. He realized that he could defeat anyone with his strength. The Gods hoped that Jalandhara would join them and they could make use of his strength. However Jalandhara had other ideas. He wanted to become the leader of the Asuras.

When he came of a marriageable age, Jalandhara went to a very powerful asura by name Kalanemi. Kalanemi was Ravana's [the nemesis of Rama - the hero of Ramayana] uncle. Kalanemi had a beautiful daughter by name Vrinda. Vrinda was extremely intelligent and she was a very great devotee of Lord Vishnu.

Impressed with Jalandhara's strength, Vrinda agreed to marry him. So Vrinda and Jalandhara were married a few days later.

Because of her devotion to Lord VIshnu, Vrinda had enormous amount of yogic powers. Vrinda loved her husband with all her heart and because of her, Jalandhara became powerful and invincible.

Shukracharya, the Guru of the Asuras, realized how powerful Jalandhara had become after his marriage to Vrinda. He decided to crown Jalandhara, the king of the Asuras. The Asuras also willingly followed the powerful Jalandhara. Soon Jalandhara ruled over the whole earth. All the kings on earth were defeated by the powerful Jalandhara.

Soon Jalandhara set eyes on Indra's heaven. Up in the heavens, Indra and the other Devas, were totally unaware of Jalandhara's plans. With an element of surprise, Jalandhara attacked the Devas. The Devas unable to protect themselves, were routed.

The Devas did not know what to do. Even Indra's Vajra, which was the most powerful weapon they had...they could not even hurt Jalandhara. All the Devas went to Lord Brahma. Lord Brahma looked at Devas and spoke to them. He told them all about the birth of Jalandhara and finished by telling them, 'Jalandhara was born out of the anger of Lord Shiva, so he can be defeated only by Lord Shiva...'

Indra said, 'If we go and ask Lord Shiva and talk to Jalandhara...do you think it will work...'

Lord Brahma looked doubtful but he nodded his head, 'We will have to ask him, but Jalandhara has become so arrogant, I doubt whether Lord Shiva can make him see sense..'

Agreeing to the requests of the Devas, Lord Shiva went to talk to Jalandhara. However Jalandhara was so arrogant that he openly insulted Lord Shiva!

Jalandhara yelled as Lord Shiva, 'You call yourself an ascetic...How dare you? If you are an ascetic, why do you need a wife...Send Goddess Parvathi away...You don't need a wife and claim to be yogi at the same time...'

With great difficulty Lord Shiva curbed his anger and tried to talk sense to Jalandhara. However Jalandhara became more and more haughty and turned down Lord Shiva's offer for peace.

Lord Shiva went back to Kailash and told the Devas all that had happened between him and Jalandhara. Lord Shiva finished by saying, 'I am afraid, we need to destroy Jalandhara...he had become too arrogant...I will lead you to battle.

The Devas cheered. If Lord Shiva himself lead them to battle, they were assured of victory.

However the next day, Lord Shiva found that Jalandhara was very powerful. He had both physical strength and he also had the power of illusion....Lord Shiva found Jalandhara to be a very strong...

Jalandhara used all his powers and created a powerful illusion to trap Lord Shiva, his gana and the Devas. Not expecting the attack, Lord Shiva and the others were stunned as they were struck inside the illusion.

Seeing Lord Shiva and the others struck inside the illusion, Jalandhara went to Kailash, where he saw Goddess Parvathi....Jalandhara smiled slyly as he used his powers and changed his form like Lord Shiva.

Jalandhara went to meet Goddess Parvathi looking like Lord Shiva, 'Parvathi! I have come back victorious...I have defeated Jalandhara...'

Goddess Parvathi looked at Lord Shiva and frowned at him. She felt something was wrong....She closed her eyes and used her powers to sense who was before her...

When Parvathi opened her eyes...she was angry...'Jalandhara! You dare come here in my husband's form...' She walked up and picked up her sword and pointed it at him.

Jalandhara knew that Goddess Parvathi was a very strong warrior, as good as her husband. He was already weak from his powers of illusion and his fight with Lord Shiva. He knew he could not fight Goddess Parvathi now...He ran from there...

Goddess Parvathi was sitting there furious, when Lord Vishnu came there. 'Parvathi! What is wrong...?

Goddess Parvathi told Lord Vishnu everything. 'How can Jalandhara be so powerful...?'

Lord Vishnu said, 'Jalandhara was already powerful...He has now married Vrindha...She is my greatest devotee...Every time Jalandhara goes to war, she prays to me. She gets a lots of powers by her prayers. It is because of her that Jalandhara is becoming invincible...'

Goddess Parvathi looked at Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu looked at Goddess Parvathi, with troubled eyes. He knew what he had to do...But could he do such a thing to his own devotee....Lord Vishnu unhappily walked out of there and went back to Vaikunta. He knew he had no choice but to do what he had to do....

The next morning, as Vrinda knew that her husband would begin his battle with Lord Shiva, she started her prayers for his welfare. As she was deep in her meditation, she saw someone enter her room. She opened her eyes and was startled to find her husband before her. She blinked as Jalandhara came before her and told her with pride, 'I have done it....I have defeated Lord Shiva...Now there is no one as strong as me....' He said with pride as Vrinda thanked Lord Vishnu. She stopped her prayers to prepare for the celebrations for her husband's victory.

It was at that minute at the battlefield between Lord Shiva and the real Jalandhara that Lord Shiva stabbed Jalandhara straight in the chest with his trishul. Without her wife's prayer to protect him, the weapon pierced into his body, killing Jalandhara then and there.

Back in Jalandhara's palace, Vrinda felt something wrong as she looked at her husband..."She had felt something bad happen to her husband...But her husband was standing before her...How was that possible"....

She looked at the Jalandhara before her and said, 'Who are you? You are not my husband....Where is he?' Vrinda looked around her palace with tears, 'I stopped my prayers...My husband...What happened to him...?'

Jalandhara vanished from there and in his place stood Lord Vishnu...But Lord Vishnu was looking at Vrinda with unhappy eyes and sad face...

Vrinda looked at Lord Vishnu and glared at him and whispered, 'What have you done? How is my husband....?'

Lord Vishnu spoke quietly, 'Jalandhara is dead, Vrinda' Vrinda let out a wail as Lord Vishnu continued, 'Your husband was becoming invincible because of your prayers, Vrinda...As long as you were praying for him, nothing could defeat him...'

Vrinda shouted at Lord Vishnu, 'I believed you and you let me down...I loved my husband and you cheated me...You stood like a stone, while my husband was dying in the battle...for this I curse you...' Vrinda said in an angry voice, 'I curse you that you will be trapped in a stone...'

Lord Vishnu nodded his head in a melancholy manner. 'I accept your curse, Vrinda...But remember, it was also your duty to stop your husband, when he did anything wrong...Your husband was behaving arrogantly and hurting others...He went to the extent of going to asking Lord Shiva to give up Goddess Parvathi...'

Vrinda looked at Lord Vishnu with wide fearful eyes as Lord Vishnu continued, '...Still nothing happened to him, because your prayers protected him...'

Vrinda looked heartbroken as she fell down. Vrinda breathed her last...Lord Vishnu was beside her looking at the dead face of his greatest devotee...

Lord Shiva and the Devas came and found Lord Vishnu sitting heartbroken beside a dead Vrinda. Lord Shiva came and told Lord Vishnu, 'Please do not grieve for her. She will be reborn as Tulsi...one of the greatest medicinal plants in the world...None of your prayers shall ever be complete without worshiping you with Tulsi leaves...'

Due to the curse, it is believed that the spirit of Lord Vishnu was captured in the stones near the river Gomti called as 'Shaligram'. These stones are considered as sacred because they are representations of Lord Vishnu. It is also believed that Vrinda cursed Lord Vishnu to be separated from his wife and it was because of this curse that Rama [Vishnu's avatar] was separated from Sita when she was kidnapped by Ravana, the King of Lanka.
